Australia captain Mitchell Marsh faced questions about Pakistan boycotting the T20 World Cup match against India and Bangladesh being thrown out of the tournament but he refused to comment on both the issues. He said that his entire focus is on winning this prestigious tournament.
Marsh was interacting with the Pakistani media after the 0-3 T20 series defeat at the hands of the hosts here last night.
Apart from the team’s performance, Australia’s captain was also asked questions about the activities going on off the field, due to which the market of discussions is hot regarding the T20 World Cup starting from February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
When Marsh was asked a question regarding Pakistan’s boycott of the match against India to be held in Colombo on February 15, he said, “At this time I do not want to comment on it.” We are just going to focus on our game in the World Cup. Rest things will sort themselves out.
Journalists also asked him a question about Bangladesh being thrown out of the competition for refusing to come to India due to ‘security concerns’, to which his response was the same as before.
He said, “My previous reaction was also the same. We are going to try to win the World Cup and our entire focus is on that. As an Australian team, we have confidence in the people there that they will ensure our safety. That’s all I will say.
Australia will be in Sri Lanka during the initial phase of the World Cup. During this period he will face Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman.
Marsh did not pay much attention to the defeat against Pakistan and the problems faced by the spinners here. Its batsmen were seen staring at the spin trio of Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan and Abrar Ahmed, who together took 17 wickets.
Marsh said, “There is no doubt that we have struggled in this series, but over the last 18 months we have been one of the best teams in the world and we have performed well against spin bowling. We will try to take advantage of the experience gained here in the World Cup. We know that our team is capable of performing well in such conditions and hence we are very excited about the World Cup.
