Woman had to pay a fine of more than Rs 2 lakh for feeding pigeons

The court has imposed a fine of 3,200 Singapore dollars i.e. about Rs 2 lakh 27 thousand on 71-year-old woman Sanmugmanathan Shamla, resident of Singapore. This fine has been imposed on him for repeatedly feeding wild birds. According to media reports, the woman accepted four charges under the Wildlife Act, while five other similar incidents were also taken into consideration by the court.

Have already paid fine many times before

This is not the first time that action has been taken against this woman. Earlier in May 2025 also, he had to pay a fine of 1,200 Singapore dollars in a similar case. At that time the woman had promised the court that she would not do this again. But according to the report, within just a month she was again caught feeding birds. The prosecution presented evidence in the court, which showed that between July 2025 and January 2026, the woman fed grains and bread to pigeons at least nine times. In the video footage shown in the court, it was seen that she was seen standing among a large number of birds near her flat in Toa Payoh.

Expressed remorse to MP but still did not agree, users took a dig

The matter was considered more serious when the court was told that the woman had also met her MP and expressed remorse. But just three days later, she was again caught feeding birds. The prosecutor called this a persistent disregard for the law and said a tough penalty was necessary to deter them. There has been a debate regarding this news on social media. Some people are saying that it is wrong to impose such a heavy fine on an elderly woman, while many users believe that the rules are the same for everyone and it is wrong to break the law despite repeated warnings. Some users even called the woman an audacity.
