Former Congress President and MP Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the loss being suffered by the Indian textile industry due to American tariffs. He said on Friday (January 23, 2026) that he (PM Modi) should not let his weakness further affect the economy. He also said that there should be a trade agreement with America in which Indian businesses and workers get importance.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recently visited a garment factory in Manesar near Gurugram and uploaded its video on his YouTube channel on Friday. Rahul said, ‘Modi ji, it is your responsibility, please pay attention to this matter.’

He said, ‘India’s textile industry is the second largest sector in terms of employment in our economy. Our clothes are loved across the world and the craftsmanship of our tailors truly has no competition. The Congress leader said that the textile industry is facing a lot of uncertainty due to American tariffs.

The Congress leader claimed, ‘America has imposed 50 percent tariff. Prices are falling in Europe, there is tough competition from Bangladesh and China, our textile industry and textile exporters are being crushed from all sides. This is having a direct impact on jobs. Factories are closing, purchases are decreasing and there is panic in the entire region.
Rahul Gandhi again taunts about ‘dead economy’
The Congress leader said, ‘PM Modi has not given any relief nor talked about tariffs, while more than 4.5 crore jobs and lakhs of businesses are at stake. Loss of jobs, closure of factories and decline in orders have become the reality of our dead economy. According to him, those working in this field just want a government that will give them real support.
Rahul Gandhi said, ‘It is very important that India makes such a trade agreement with America in which Indian industry and Indian workers get preference. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not let his weakness further affect our economy.
