Battle Beyond Cancer: A person living in North Carolina state of America has faced the deadly disease cancer 5 times and now through his experience, he is making people aware to get tested in time. David and Pat Penny of Johnston County have been married for more than 51 years.

David was first in the army and then later worked as a firefighter. He has battled cancer five times so far. These include non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, sarcoma and, more recently, breast cancer in men. Which is very serious in men and its cases are only about 1%, as reported by People.com.

It was difficult to save at the age of 30

Pat says that it was difficult to save her husband at the age of 30, but he is a symbol of incredible courage and perseverance. Pat always calls him “Ever-Ready Bunny” because he is always active and full of energy.

David was diagnosed with cancer in the spring of 2025 when he felt a small lump in his chest while examining himself. He found this unusual. The very next week he underwent lumpectomy (lump removal surgery) and now all his test reports are clear.

Timely victory over cancer through awareness

Pat was diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram in 2009 at the age of 56. He said that getting the appointment on time saved his life, because the cancer had spread to deeper parts of the body and if he had noticed it himself, it might have been too late.

Today both David and Pat are working as volunteers for the American Cancer Society. They share their story on social media to highlight others to be aware of their body and get regular health checkups done. David says that no one knows your body better than you. If you feel something is wrong, do not postpone it for a week or two.
