This player is doubtful to play in T20 World Cup, out of remaining two matches of Ashes due to back injury

Pat Cummins Doubtful To Play In The ICC T20 World Cup 2026: Australia’s Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins is doubtful to play in the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka next year. He has not yet fully recovered from his back injury. Cummins could not play in the first two matches of the Ashes series against England. He made a comeback in the third Ashes Test played in Adelaide and played an important role in giving Australia an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series by taking six wickets. Cummins will now not be able to play in the remaining two matches of this series and even his playing in the T20 World Cup is doubtful. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh is the captain of Australia in T20 International.

Australia’s head coach gave a statement

According to ESPNcricinfo, Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald said, ‘Eagerly waiting for the World Cup. I can’t do anything clearly about whether Cummins will join the team for this tournament or not. At present the situation is uncertain. We hope that he will be fit by then.

He said, ‘He is fine but we do not want to take any kind of risk. We have won the series and this was our target. He will not play in the remaining matches of the series. We had discussed about his return a long time ago. The ICC T20 World Cup will start from February 7, 2026 and its final will be played on March 8. Australia has to play its first match against Ireland on 11 February in Colombo.

Smith will captain in place of Cummins in the remaining two matches of the Ashes series.

Pat Cummins is the captain of Australia in Test cricket, but he will not be a part of the team in the remaining two matches of the Ashes series, so the responsibility of captaincy has once again been handed over to Steve Smith. Steve Smith also captained in the first two Tests of this Ashes, when Cummins was out due to injury.
