Former England cricketer and veteran umpire Dicky Bird died at the age of 92. The Yorkshire Cricket Club of England confirmed this sad news on Tuesday evening. Bird did not play international cricket for England, but scored more than 3 thousand runs in 93 first-class matches. He made a mark in the cricket world as an veteran umpire. He died at his home.
The Yorkshire County Club issued a statement saying, “One of the most loved faces of cricket was no more among us today. Dicky bird achieved a lot of success in international cricket. He will be remembered as the most popular match in cricket history.”
Dicky Bird played cricket for the Yorkshire and Lessestershire Club in England, but he got more recognition as an umpire. Scored 3314 runs in the first-class career of his 93 matches. His batting average in cricket career was just 20, in which he had 2 centuries and 14 fifty.
In his historic umpiring career, he worked as an umpire in 66 Test matches and 69 ODIs. He also gained umpiring experience in three World Cup final matches. In his life, he also took over the post of President of Yorkshire Cricket Club in 2014.
He was born on April 19, 1933 in Yorkshire, England. According to reports, he had to retire from cricket career at the age of 32 due to injury. After that, he spent a few years in coaching and then stepped into umpiring. He last took the responsibility of umpiring in a competitive cricket match in 2000.
