In the year 2025, many new champions were formed in the world of cricket, who ended the drought of years and won the trophy. Recently the Indian women’s team has won the ODI World Cup for the first time. This year, before Team India became the champion, Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (IPL) in the IPL and South Africa (WTC) created history by winning the World Test Championship. This was a year where we got to see four new champions in the four major tournaments of the cricket world.
Hobart Hurricanes won the first BBL trophy
Earlier this year, Hobart Hurricanes became champions for the first time in the Big Bash League (BBL) and ended the years-long wait for the trophy. After losing in the finals of BBL 2013-14 and 2017-18 seasons, it finally tasted victory in 2025. Throughout the tournament, the pair of Tim David and Mitchell Owen did wonders in batting, while captain Nathan Ellis created history by performing brilliantly in bowling.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the first IPL title
Royal Challengers Bangalore became champions for the first time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and ended their years-long trophy drought. After losing in the finals of 2009, 2011 and 2016 seasons of IPL, it finally won the trophy in 2025. In the entire tournament, the excellent captaincy of Rajat Patidar, explosive batting of Virat Kohli and Phil Salt and the pair of Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar did wonders in bowling and gave their team the first title.
South Africa won ICC title after 27 years
South Africa became champion for the first time in the ICC Test Championship. The Proteas won their first ICC trophy since the 1998 Champions Trophy. They ended the drought of 27 years by defeating Australia by 5 wickets in the final match held at Lord’s Cricket Ground. In this victory, due to the brilliant captaincy of Temba Bavuma, explosive batting of Aiden Markram and excellent bowling of Kagiso Rabada, the South African team became the world champion in Test cricket.
Indian women’s team becomes champion after 52 years
The Indian women’s team won its first ICC trophy after a long wait of 52 years in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, 2 November 2025. In the final, the Indian team defeated South Africa by 52 runs and registered a historic victory under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur. Throughout the tournament, Smriti Mandhana performed well in batting and Deepti Sharma performed well with both ball and bat. In the final match, Shefali Verma played a brilliant inning of 87 runs. Team India showed excellent performance in all departments and became the first world champion.
