Sachin Tendulkar’s glow on the cricket field is more than any batsman. In his career, Tendulkar created such records in batting, which the previous players did not even think of him. Even after a decade of retirement, many records of Tendulkar are unwavering even today. However, as captain, Tendulkar did not get the same success.
Sachin Tendulkar made his debut for the Indian team at the age of 16 in 1989. Seven years after the debut, he was given the captaincy of the Indian team on 9 August 1996 at the age of 23. At the age of 23 years 169 days, he became the second youngest captain of India after Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. He was the captain of the Indian team for almost a year, but during this time the performance of the team was very poor. In December 1997, he resigned from captaincy.
Azharuddin was the captain of the Indian team in the 1999 ODI World Cup. Team India had a poor performance in the World Cup. Therefore, in 1999, Tendulkar was given the command of the Indian team for the second time. This time too, his tenure was very short. In 2000, Sachin expressed his desire to leave the captaincy in front of the BCCI in 2000 due to the team’s continuous defeat. After this, Sourav Ganguly took command of the team.
Sachin captained 25 Tests and 73 ODIs for India in two small term. The Indian team managed to win 4 Tests and 23 ODIs. The figures make it clear that Tendulkar was not effective as captain.
However, Sachin Tendulkar was the backbone of Indian batting sequence from debut to retirement. Between 1989 and 2013, Sachin scored 15,921 runs for the Indian team scoring 51 centuries and 68 half -centuries in a 329 innings of 200 Tests. Scored 18,426 runs in 463 ODIs scoring 49 centuries and 96 half -centuries. At the same time, he scored 10 runs in the only T20.
Sachin has a record of playing the highest match in international cricket and scoring the most runs and centuries. These are records that do not appear to be broken in the near future.
