Toll Tax Refund: Keep checking your FASTag account, the refund money will come back; Know what is the matter?

Toll Refund: There is big news for the people stuck in heavy traffic jam on Mumbai-Pune Expressway on 3rd February. In fact, toll taxes will be refunded to 1.2 lakh passengers stuck in the traffic jam for 32 hours after a gas tanker overturned near Khopoli on Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

Officials of Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) have given this information. Refund amount total will be Rs 5.16 crore. The refund will include tolls of both the expressway and the Pune-Bengaluru highway. Traffic came to a complete standstill after the accident of overturning of the gas tanker on the expressway. Thousands of passengers remained stuck in the traffic jam for hours. During this period, instructions were given not to collect toll from the passengers, but even after its implementation, toll was collected from the people.

MSRDC asked for details from IRB Infrastructure

Speaking to TOI, an MSRDC official said, “We have data of passengers from whom toll was collected even after orders to stop toll were issued after the gas tanker accident. This amount will be refunded to the FASTag account of the passengers in the coming week.” MSRDC had also sought detailed data of FASTag deduction from its concessionaire, IRB Infrastructure, after the toll collection was stopped in view of the accident and the traffic jam caused due to it, so that the toll amount can be properly refunded to all the affected passengers.

Passengers troubled by hours of traffic jam

MSRDC had clearly asked the IRB whether toll was collected even after receiving information about stopping toll collection. He said, it is believed that till the opening of the toll plaza barrier, money would have been deducted from the passengers’ FASTag. Even after the order to stop toll collection was issued, the money will now be returned to the passengers from whom toll was collected.

Let us tell you that due to the accident on 3rd February, people who were stuck in traffic without any basic facilities for more than a day had to face a lot of problems. Especially the elderly, women and children had to face a lot of difficulties. Many people had to cancel their plans. In such a situation, when the news of toll collection continuing at Khalapur Plaza came to light, people’s anger increased further.
