Following the firing on two National Guardsmen near the White House in Washington DC, USA, the Trump administration has stopped all immigration requests from residents of Afghanistan with immediate effect. Donald Trump suggested to the administration that every Afghan entering America should be reviewed. American officials have said that the shooting in Washington was carried out by an Afghan man.
Afghan man attacked in America
The US Department of Homeland Security described the incident as a terrorist attack and identified the suspect as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal. He is an Afghan citizen and came to America in 2021. Donald Trump was not present in the National Capital when this incident occurred. He had gone to Florida for the Thanksgiving program.
Stopping immigration processes of Afghan citizens
Thousands of Afghan refugees are in a state of indefinite wait due to the new policy that came after Trump imposed a travel ban on citizens of Afghanistan and 11 other countries earlier this year. Many people were hoping to shift to America after the Taliban returned to power in 2021. One of these people is Ijaz, who was working with NATO in the Afghan airport before the Taliban took over the country. After some time, he went to Pakistan with the dream of getting an American visa and settling there and has been waiting there for four years.
Fear increased among refugees living in Pakistan
In an interview with Arab News, he said, “We have no future in Pakistan. Our only hope was to reach America. Being a former soldier, I cannot go back. If I return, the Taliban will kill me. I have no way to return. America’s decision regarding immigration is not right. We are very nervous and want a change in this rule. I request them (Trump administration) to carefully investigate our cases. We are If someone is wrong, don’t punish others, our situation is not good.
