US President Donald Trump has tightened the immigration policy citing national security and public safety. On Tuesday (December 16, 2025), the Trump administration imposed a complete travel ban on seven more countries and Palestinians. Apart from this, partial restrictions were imposed on the entry of citizens of 15 other countries. With this step of the Trump administration, the total number of countries facing travel ban or entry restriction by America has increased to 39.
New restriction will come into effect from January 1
According to the White House fact-sheet, this extended travel ban and entry restrictions will be effective from January 1. The administration says that this step has been taken in view of the weak visa verification system, high visa overstay rate and the threat of terrorist activities.
Complete travel ban on these 7 countries
Under the new announcement, a complete travel ban has been imposed on Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan and Syria. Apart from this, Palestinians holding travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority have also been included in the banned list. Also, a complete travel ban has now been implemented on Laos and Sierra Leone, which earlier had partial restrictions.
