US President Donald Trump and New York’s newly elected Mayor Zoharan Mamdani met for the first time at the White House on Friday (November 21), in which the tone of the two leaders was completely different from the election confrontation. Trump described this closed-door meeting as very good and productive. During the discussion, consensus was reached on many important issues and Trump also assured to support Mamdani’s affordability agenda.
During the election campaign, both of them made sharp attacks on each other. Trump had called Mamdani a “communist lunatic,” while Mamdani had called the president a “dictator.” But when both of them came out of the meeting on Friday, the atmosphere had completely changed. Trump said, “We had a very good and productive meeting. We both have a common desire for New York, the city we love, to move forward and do better.” He also said that the better work Mamdani does, the happier he will be.

Mamdani told what happened with Trump
After the meeting, newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that the conversation between the two leaders was very productive. He said that in the meeting there was a detailed discussion on rising inflation and affordability in New York, which has also been the main issue of Mamdani’s election campaign. “We talked about rent, groceries, utility bills and all the things that are making it difficult for people to live in New York,” Mamdani said.
The atmosphere of the meeting was quite cordial. Trump congratulated Mamdani on winning the election and said that he had defeated many smart people in this race. He also acknowledged that some of Mamdani’s views on New York’s economy and affordability were similar to his.
