Lutynic statement caused panic
US Commerce Minister Howard Lutnik said, “Now it is to decide the companies, whether it is commercially correct to give one million dollars to bring an engineer from abroad or not. If not, send them back and place an American in place of them.”
For Indian professionals, H-1B is a means of working in America for a long time. It is a simple matter that this move of Trump has shocked Indian outsourcing, but there is a screw in it. Trump’s decree can also be a matter of benefit for India’s $ 60 billion Global Capability Center (GCC) industry. GTRI founder Ajay Srivastava says that increasing fees for H-1B visa will harm America more than India.
How will India benefit?
For decades, Indian professionals have been the backbone of innovation and startup ecosystem in America. Talking to ET online, Ajay Srivastava said, due to this huge fee, it will be expensive to appoint on-site Indians. With this, companies will either increase their operations abroad or work in a remote manner from India. Every time companies like Amazon, Google or Meta bring workers on H-1B visas, now sponship will also become expensive for them with the new rule.
According to data from Mumbai-based Motilal Oswal Financial Services, the business year 24 had 57 percent stake in these big tech firms and cognizants and IT multinational companies like Capjemini. Now, with the increase in fees, companies can increase the scope of their business abroad or in India to work with talented foreign employees. Apart from this, Indian youth professionals will prefer more in working in the country instead of moving America or finding new options.
