US President Donald Trump has announced an additional 25 per cent tariff on India on Wednesday (6 August 2025). Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that this is not good news for us. He said that if our total tariff is 50 percent, then for many people in America, our products will be overcome by reach.
‘Tariffs on countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan less than us’
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said, “If we look at, then tariffs on countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, even Bangladesh and Pakistan are less than us. I am afraid that when American people get cheap items else, they will not buy the same as us. It is not very good for our exports. It means that we need to have a serious intelligence in those countries and markets that we need to have a serious interest in our own exports.”
The Congress MP said, “Now we have a free trade agreement (FTA) with Britain. We are talking to the European Union. There are many countries where we expect. It is definitely a shock.”
Trump is adopting double standards- Shashi Tharoor
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor accused Trump of adopting double standards. He said, America itself is taking many things like uranium, palladium from Russia. This reflects its double criteria. He has given 90 days’ time to China, but China is importing more Russian oil than us. It is obvious that the country we thought about that they keep a special friendly behavior with us, in fact it is not so. “
Shashi Tharoor said, “Now that we have come to know that America is not good towards us, then we have to work accordingly. We have to learn a lesson from this experience. I think now there will be pressure to put the same tariff on American exports within India too. In these circumstances we will have to pay more attention to our other business partners.”
