Taiwan President Lai Ching-tey has made a big statement regarding US President Donald Trump receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. He said in an American radio show and podcast that if Donald Trump could convince China to abandon the use of force against Taiwan, he should get the Nobel Prize.
The Taiwanese President said that despite the absence of formal relations, the US is against Taiwan’s claims to China and is Taiwan’s most important international supporter, but since Trump took office he has not announced any new arms deal with China.
Trump may meet Xi Jinping in South Korea
According to Reuters report, Trump may meet Xi Jinping at the meeting of leaders of the Asia-Pacific region in South Korea later this month. Lai referenced Trump’s August comments on The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show this week, in which he said Xi Jinping had told him that China would not invade Taiwan as long as he was US president.
When will Trump get the Nobel Peace Prize?
Lai said that we hope that President Trump will continue to support. If President Trump can convince Xi Jinping to permanently abandon any military aggression against Taiwan, then President Trump will undoubtedly be a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Let us tell you that Donald Trump himself has said on many occasions that he should now get the Nobel Peace Prize, because he has not only stopped the wars of many countries but has also made peace agreements between them. This year’s award will be announced on Friday in Norway.
American policy is not clear regarding Taiwan
President Lai Ching-te said that China’s increasing military activities are not only a challenge for Taiwan. This extends far beyond the occupation of Taiwan. Once Taiwan is captured, China will become stronger to compete with America on the international stage, which will further weaken the international order.
America is legally obliged to provide weapons and other necessary materials to Taiwan to defend itself. Despite this, it is not yet clear whether America will respond militarily if China attacks Taiwan. China considers Lai a separatist and has repeatedly rejected his offer for talks.
