India US Trade Deal: During the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, US President Donald Trump spoke openly on global issues as well as India-America relations. After his address, Trump spoke to the Indian media. In this discussion, he gave information on the proposed trade deal between the two countries.
In this conversation, Trump has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi a lot. Also indicated to strengthen economic partnership with India. He said that PM Modi is a great person and my friend. We will make a good deal with India.
Positive stance on India-US trade deal
During the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump has given positive indications about the India-US trade deal. The first formal discussion regarding the proposed bilateral trade agreement between India and America took place during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Washington in February 2025.
The purpose of this deal is to increase the current trade between the two countries from about $191 billion to $500 billion by 2030. That means there was discussion on doubling the business more than double.
Suspense still on India-America trade deal
Discussions regarding trade deal between India and America have been going on for a long time. But no positive news has come till now. Trump also did not clarify when this agreement would be finalized. However, discussions have taken place on this topic between the two countries at many levels.
Meanwhile, heavy tariffs still exist on Indian products in the American market. Nearly 50 percent duty is being charged on many goods going from India to America. Besides, Trump has also talked about additional 25 percent tariff on trade relations with Iran.
