US President Donald Trump returned to Washington on Saturday (August 16, 2025) after a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at Alaska. There was no conclusion on ceasefire in Ukraine in a meeting that lasted for about three hours, but the meeting ended on a positive attitude.
Trump, who stayed in Alaska for about six hours, left for Washington at around 4:20 pm local time. Trump and Putin held a joint press conference in Alaska after the meeting. However, in the press conference, both did not answer the questions of journalists.
Why Putin visited Fort Richardson Memorial Cemetery?
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Fort Richardson Memorial cemetery before leaving Moscow from Alaska, where he offered flowers to the tombs of Soviet Union soldiers. These tombs are tribute to those Soviet pilots and sailors who were martyred during World War II from America to the Soviet Union.
According to a report by the Russian news agency TASS, Putin said, “I want to thank Trump for working together and maintain a friendly and reliable atmosphere in the conversation. The special thing is that both sides were firm to achieve results. Our conversation was positive”.
‘All legitimate concerns of Russia should be considered’
Putin said during a press conference, “I agree with President Trump that Ukraine’s security should be ensured. We are ready to work on it, but the war can end only when all the legitimate concerns of Russia are considered and all the original roots of the conflict are noted”.
The Russian President admitted that in recent years, the US-Russia relations have smelled but, the agreements in Alaska would become a reference point to resolve the Ukrainian problem and restore the relationship between Moscow and Washington. Putin said, “We hope that Kiev and Europe will give creative response and will not try to derail the progress from the provocation or curtains”.
US President Donald Trump thanked Putin for the meeting and hoped for the next meeting soon. Putin responded with laughter in English, next time in Moscow.
