US President Donald Trump on Saturday made a big announcement regarding the countries opposing American control over Greenland. He has threatened to impose additional tariffs on 8 European countries. He has also announced to impose 10 percent tariff on goods imported from 8 European countries.
Trump has said in his social media post that tariffs will be imposed on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Netherlands and Finland. He has said that if there is no agreement regarding Greenland, then this duty will be increased to 25% from June 1.
While sharing a post on Truth social media, Trump wrote, ‘For many years we have given subsidies to Denmark, and all the countries of the European Union, and others without taking tariffs or any kind of payment. After centuries it is time for Denmark to give back. World peace is at stake! China and Russia want Greenland. Denmark can’t do anything about it. They currently have two dogsleds for safety. One of these has been added recently.
No one will touch this piece of sacred land: Trump
He said, ‘Only the United States of America can successfully participate in this game under the leadership of President Donald J Trump. No one will touch this sacred piece of land. That too when the national security of the United States and the security of the entire world is at stake. Apart from these, the reason why Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, UK, Netherlands and Finland have gone to Greenland is not known. This is a very dangerous situation for the safety, security and existence of our home region. These countries are playing a very dangerous game. They have created an unacceptable risk.
Strong steps will have to be taken to protect global peace and security: Trump
Trump said, ‘To protect global peace and security, it is necessary that necessary and strict steps be taken. So that this potentially dangerous situation ends quickly and without any questions.
Trump has announced to increase the tariff on all these countries to 25% from June 1, 2026. Also it has been announced to take 10% tariff. He has said that this tariff will have to be paid until the deal for the complete purchase of Greenland is reached. The UK has been trying to make a deal to buy Greenland for 150 years. Many presidents have tried this. But Denmark has rejected them citing good reasons.
Now there is a need to acquire. Currently, billions of dollars are being spent on the security programs related to The Dome. This also includes the security of Canada. America is ready for talks with Denmark or any of these countries.
