US Green Card Interview: The situation seems to be changing for the people involved in the green card process in America. According to media reports, people who came for green card interview at the USCIS office in San Diego are being detained on the spot. The surprising thing is that these also include people who are spouses of American citizens and who do not have any criminal record.
Immigration lawyer Saman Nasseri said that now the target is those people whose visa validity has expired. According to Nasseri, ICE and USCIS are jointly detaining those people who come to the USCIS office for interviews, but whose status is illegal. He told that in the last one week, 5 of his clients were handcuffed and taken into custody during the interview itself. He said that there is no crime registered against these people and they were just staying in America after exceeding the visa limit. According to him, all of them are married to American citizens and were applying for permanent residence (green card) under the regular process.

Lawyer Habib Hasbini also confirmed that several of his clients were detained during interviews at the USCIS San Diego office. He told that this action has increased more rapidly after November 12. Hasbini said that so far the arrests appear to be limited to the San Diego USCIS office, but this has increased fear in the immigration community.
