Tension with America had increased after the action taken on recent protests in Iran, after which threats were also seen against each other between US President Donald Trump and the Khamenei administration. Meanwhile, a meeting was held in Oman between representatives of both the countries. Shortly after its end, America announced new sanctions against Iran.
What statement did the US State Department give??
After this, the US State Department issued an official statement saying that the US State Department is imposing sanctions on 15 institutions, two individuals and 14 shadow fleet ships related to the illegal trade of petroleum, petroleum products and petrochemical products of Iran.
The department said these targets generate revenue that the Iranian regime uses to carry out its malign activities. Instead of investing in the welfare of its own people and deteriorating infrastructure, the Iranian regime is funding destabilizing activities around the world and intensifying repression at home.
US State Department will continue to take action against the Iranian regime and its partners
The US State Department said the US will continue to take action to hold both the Iranian regime and its partners accountable as long as the Iranian regime continues to evade sanctions and raise oil and petrochemical revenues to finance such repressive behavior and support terrorist activities and their proxies.
The department said that under President Trump’s maximum pressure policy, it is committed to bringing the Iranian regime’s illegal oil and petrochemical exports to minimum levels.
