US President Donald Trump made a statement about imposing 50 percent tariff on India and better relations with China. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that our better business relations with China are different from the Indo-US trade deal. On the change in India’s policy towards China, Piyush Goyal said, “I think this change has nothing to do with the current situation. The dispute started after the Galwan military clashes, when the border issues were agreed.”
‘The conversation between India-China was already started’
Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, “We (India-China) had already started talking again. It has no connection with any case related to the current trade agreement with the US, so I would not like to join the two together.” Expressing confidence in the Indian economy too, the Union Minister said, “India has strength. India is full of possibilities. We are the fastest growing economy in the world. Our economic infrastructure is strong.”
What did Piyush Goyal say on the Indo-US trade deal?
In the ET World Leaders Forum, Piyush Goyal also spoke on the Indo-US trade deal. He said, “Indo-US relations are very important for both of us. I have been associated with American companies working in India. Everyone believes that our relationship is very important. My office had just come to a very big businessman in Mumbai, who told me that I export to America and I am worried about the current situation. He said that they are with the Government of India.”
India and the United States are interacting on bilateral trade agreement (BTA) from March. So far, five rounds of talks have been completed. The US has postponed the sixth round of talks in India.
