On the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day Parade on Monday (January 26, 2026), the Indian Army displayed its valiant military battalions and regiments as well as indigenous munitions before the nation on the line of duty. At the same time, during the parade, the Indian Army also displayed its contingent for the first time, about which the people of the country did not know much till date.
Actually, the contingent of the Indian Army that we are talking about today is the Animal Regiment. This time, for the first time, the Indian Army made the two humped Bactrian camels, Zanskar ponies and Shikari Black Kites of this regiment a part of the parade in the Republic Day celebrations. Seeing this army regiment, an atmosphere of curiosity and enthusiasm was created among the spectators.
Members of the 61st Cavalry also participated in the parade.
Apart from this, for the first time during the parade, members of the mounted 61st Cavalry were also seen in combat uniform. The 61st Cavalry has traditionally been the leading contingent of the armed forces in ceremonial parades. This contingent is known for its impressive appearance with its members wearing formal uniforms and attractive caps.
26-year-old Captain Ahan Kumar, who led the contingent, also received this honor in the Republic Day Parade of 2025. This year also he returned to the line of duty as a troop commander with the Hanoverian breed horse Ranveer. However, this time he was in combat attire.
People saw many things for the first time on Republic Day
This year, the people of the country also got to see many other things for the first time in the Republic Day Parade. A contingent of mixed scouts wearing heavy thermal uniforms also took part in the parade for the first time, officials said. Lieutenant Amit Chaudhary led this contingent in the parade.
Apart from this, the new Shaktiban Regiment of the Indian Army was also displayed for the first time in the Republic Day Parade. It has been established to increase the strength of the army’s artillery. The new regiment will have provisions for drones, counter-drones and loiter munitions. While the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment of Bhairav Battalion, a special infantry unit of the army, also took part in the parade in the national capital.
