Uber is facing criticism: Uber is facing sharp criticism on social media about his new ‘advanced tip’ feature. Regarding this feature, users have alleged that the ride-hiling company forces its customers to pay extra money under the guise of booking rides early.
More likely to accepted the driver’s trip to the tip
In this series, a formal notice has been sent to Uber on this issue by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA). Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi also criticized the move and described it as immoral and exploited. He said on social media that such facility comes under unfair trade practices and he has ordered a thorough investigation.
Uber asks to add tip while booking a ride
Under this feature, Uber app asks users to add a tip of Rs 50, Rs 75 or Rs 100 while booking rides. The app tells users that adding tip may increase the chances of the driver’s trip accepting. It also clearly states that once adding the tip, no change can be made and ensures that the entire tip goes to the driver. Many people are not happy with this feature of Uber. People have compared it to give money before serving the waiter.
Being forced to give tip
One user wrote that the drivers are now refusing to accept regular fare rides and customers are being forced to give more than Rs 100 tip for pick-up only. The other user made sarcastic remarks to make the customer on extra so that someone accepts the ride request. ‘A great step.’ Many users said that the tip should be a way to thank someone after good service, not advanced to get service.
One user told that he had to use Uber recently and he was shocked to see that the driver was asking for a tip before coming. Another user described this facility as ‘bad behavior’ and said that it seems as if the waiter is being forced to give money to get service in a restaurant.
People also called it a form of bribe
Some people also called it a form of bribe. He said that this is not a tip, Uber now bribes drivers to get pick-up only on time from users. This is not the first time Uber has faced trouble with the Consumer Protection Authority. Earlier in January, the CCPA sent a notice to both Uber and Ola, complaining that they are charging different fare on the basis of the use of Android or iPhone devices by customers.
