UGC Issues Warning to 89 Institutions Including IIMS and AIIMS for Ignoring Anti Ragging Rules

UGC is now adopting a strict form. Now the renowned institutions of the country are facing strictness of the University Grants Commission. Many universities may be overwhelming to ignore the issue like ragging. UGC has sent a show cause notice to 89 higher educational institutions across the country and put them on the defaulter list. These are the institutions who have neither taken anti-coagling affidavits from the students till now nor submitted an affidavit at the scheduled time.

IIT and IIM also included in the list

The shocking name in the defaulter list is of top institutions like IIT and IIM. These include. IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Palakkad, IIM Mumbai, IIM Rohtak and IIM Tiruchirappalli. Apart from this, AIIMS Rae Bareli, National Institute of Design (NID) and other major institutions are also in this list.

UGC rules ignored

According to UGC Secretary Dr. Manish Joshi, reminders were sent to institutions several times by the Commission. Anti-Ragging Helpline and Monitoring Agency also alerted, but despite this the institutes failed to take necessary action. He said that it is not only disregarding the rules of UGC, but also playing with the safety of the students.

What does the rule say?

Under the UGC’s Anti-Ragging Regulation 2009, all higher educational institutions are required to take a declaration against ragging from students and their parents at the beginning of every session. Its purpose is to give students a safe and cordial educational environment.

If not accepted, strict action will be taken

If these institutions do not follow the rules in the next 30 days, then the UGC can take strict action against them. In this, strict steps like stopping their funding, canceling recognition and ending affiliation can be taken. This may also affect their research projects and other financial assistance.

• Nalanda university
• Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)
• Indian Statistics Institute, Kolkata
