Ukraine attacked Russia’s Nuclear Energy Plant on the occasion of completion of 34 years of independence. Russia said on Sunday (24 August 2025) that Ukraine attacked the Nuclear Energy Plant in its western Kursk region with a drone, causing it overnight. This has been confirmed by Russian officials.
Russian officials said that several energy plants were targeted in overnight attacks by Ukraine. According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, on August 24, 95 Ukraine drones were killed in more than 12 Russian areas. According to the press service of the New Energy Plant, the fire in the plant was immediately extinguished and no casualties were reported. He said that a transformer was damaged in the attack, but the radiation level remained within the normal limit.
Nuclear watchdog associated with United Nations has no information about these reports. Its Director General Rafael Mariano Gossi said that any nuclear facility should be protected at all times. Ukraine has not yet commented on this attack.
The Governor of the Leningrad region of Russia said that the Ukrainian drone was also on fire at the razor-laughar. There is a large fuel export terminal here. He said that 10 Ukrainian drones were killed in this area. According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia fired 72 drones and fake weapons, a cruise missile in Ukraine on Sunday, out of which 48 drones were killed.
On the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day, President Volodimir Jailonsky issued a video message to his people and appealed for just peace. He said, “We are building a Ukraine that will have enough power and strength to live in security and peace.”
Jailonski also spoke about the summit of US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Jailmanki in Alaska. Trump wants Jailonski to hand over Donbas to Russia and agrees for peace talks. During the celebration of independence, Jailonsky said, “What our future will be depends only on us. The world knows it and respects it.”
