Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who came to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Tianjin, China, had a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Shahbaz Sharif said, ‘We respect your relations with India. This is absolutely fine. But we also want to have a strong relationship with Russia. When the Pakistani PM expressed his desire to increase cooperation in many areas including trade, energy, agriculture, Vladimir Putin replied to him. Putin said, ‘Unfortunately, business has decreased due to many circumstances. We will assess the situation regarding business. Unfortunately, Pakistan is facing new plagues.

Putin said that Shahbaz Sharif said that under his leadership Pakistan will emerge from all challenges. Putin inquired about the floods in Pakistan from Shahbaz. The Russian President said that cooperation on forums like SCO is very important for regional and global stability. The two leaders also discussed issues like South Asia, Afghanistan, Middle East and Ukraine Jung.
Pak PM Shahbaz Sharif accepted Putin’s invitation to visit Russia in November and attend a meeting of heads of SCOs. In the SCO meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan wants a general and stable relationship with its neighbors and prioritizes dialogue rather than confrontation. Said, ‘We all respect international and bilateral treaties and hope that all members will follow the same principles.’
