Congress Party’s Lok Sabha MP Vamsi Krishna Gaddam reached Parliament House with an electric bike. He told that the level of air pollution in Delhi is high, hence he came to Parliament using an electric bike. According to the MP, this electric bike runs for about 100 kilometers on a charge of just Rs 20. ‘RG’ was written on the bike.
Its price is said to be around Rs 1 lakh. Vamsi Krishna Gaddam said that in view of pollution, attention should be paid to the use of electric vehicles. There was discussion in the Parliament premises regarding his initiative. While talking to the media, the Congress MP told that he has made this bike himself and has also taken all the permissions related to it.
Hearing in Supreme Court on pollution tomorrow
The Supreme Court on Monday said it will hear on December 17 a petition related to worsening air pollution levels in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). A bench of Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pamcholi considered the arguments of senior advocate Aparajita Singh, who is assisting the court as amicus curiae. Singh said that unless this court gives any direction, the officers do not follow the already existing protocol.
CJI commented
On this the CJI said, ‘This matter will come before a bench of three judges on Wednesday. There will be a hearing on this. Another lawyer, citing an application related to health issues of children, said that despite earlier orders, schools are organizing outdoor sports activities. The amicus curiae also said, ‘Despite this court order, schools have found ways to organize these sports activities…these activities are taking place. CAQM (Commission for Air Quality Management) is once again citing this court order.
AQI crossed 400
On Monday, Delhi remained wrapped in a blanket of dense smog, due to which the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 498, which falls in the ‘severe’ category. The air quality was ‘severe’ at 38 centres, while it was ‘very poor’ at two centres. Jahangirpuri recorded an AQI of 498, which was the worst air quality center among all the 40 centres.
