Panchayat elections are proposed in Uttar Pradesh in the year 2026. However, if experts are to be believed, there may be a delay in the elections in this regard also. The Panchayat elections held in May 2021 were also delayed due to Corona virus infection.
Now it is claimed that the elections proposed for April-May this year may be delayed again. Actually, Backward Class Commission is formed before every Panchayat election. On the basis of which reservation of posts in Gram Panchayat, Nagar Panchayat and District Panchayat is determined. First comes its provisional list, if anyone has any objection then a certain time is given for it. After that the final list comes.
The entire reservation process takes about 3 to 5 months. According to experts, even if the commission is formed in March itself, it will take time till July 2026 for all this to happen. Then the elections may be postponed to September-October.
Why is there a problem in Panchayat elections in UP before the UP Assembly elections?
If only Panchayat elections are held in UP till September-October, then political parties will not get time to prepare for the proposed assembly elections in January 2027. More than getting time for preparations, it is more important for the political parties to complete the Panchayat elections, which are considered the semi-finals of power, without any internal strife.
However, if we look at past experiences, the internal conflicts of every party come to the fore in the eyes of the public during Panchayat elections. In such a situation, contesting the Assembly elections immediately after the Panchayat elections will be no less than a litmus test for the political parties.
Will Panchayat elections be held after 2027 elections?
According to experts, the process of Panchayat will be started in UP only after the elections of the year 2027. According to sources, Panchayat and municipal body elections can be conducted simultaneously in different phases. On one hand, Pradhan will be elected in villages, whereas in cities, Chairman and Mayor can be elected. According to sources, both the elections will be held simultaneously in the year 2027 or 2028, which can also prove to be the litmus test of One Nation One Election in a big state like UP.
No one is ready to say anything on whether the Panchayat elections will be held on time or just before or after the assembly elections. Neither political parties, nor officials. It is certain that if these elections are not held on time, then the village government will be in the hands of the Secretary and the District Panchayat will be in the hands of the District Magistrate as administrator till the next elections.
