Politics has intensified regarding the administrative altercation that took place with Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda and his disciples i.e. Batukas at the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. While earlier Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya had talked about action in this matter, now after the statement of Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak came to light, opposition parties have started claiming division in BJP. The Batukas also blessed Brajesh Pathak to become the Chief Minister, due to which the political discussions have become more intense.
On the pretext of Avimukteshwaranand, the opposition in UP is trying to set the assembly elections for the year 2027. His target is BJP and its top leaders. Quoting separate statements of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak on the Magh Mela issue, the opposition claims that there is a split in BJP on this issue.
What did SP-Congress say?
Samajwadi Party MLA Ragini Sonkar while attacking the government said that BJP is doing politics on the basis of religion and caste and diverting attention from development issues. He said that BJP’s factionalism is good for the public because it is going to wipe them out in 2027. When the Batuks blessed Brajesh Pathak to become the Chief Minister, he called it a mutual tussle and said that the government has deviated from the basic visionary issues.
Congress’s Aradhana Mishra also described this entire incident as a sign of disagreement within the BJP. He said that if the Chief Minister says something and his Deputy CM gives contrary statement then it is sad. BJP should clarify who will be the face of the Chief Minister – Yogi Adityanath, Brajesh Pathak or Keshav Prasad Maurya. He claimed that factionalism is clearly visible in BJP and it is also affecting the functioning of the government. According to him, MLAs and ministers are divided into factions and the bureaucracy is taking advantage of this, which is unfortunate for the state.
Samajwadi Party leader Sangram Singh Yadav said on the statement of Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, ‘It took time for him to speak. Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav tweeted on the same day and said that an ordinary officer was asking for a certificate from Shankaracharya on the banks of the Sangam. This was not right at all, but Yogi Adityanath rules power with arrogance. The Deputy Chief Minister feels that if Shankaracharya is not treated well then he should resign from his post.
Yogi’s minister rejected the claims
On the other hand, Narendra Kashyap, a minister in the Yogi government, supported the statement of Brajesh Pathak and said that pulling the butts of batuks is definitely a sin and God will punish those who have committed the sin. He said that Brajesh Pathak is a big leader and what he has said is right. On Batuks blessing Pathak to become the Chief Minister, Kashyap said that people have feelings, if someone prays for a leader then what is wrong in it. But who will become the Chief Minister is decided by the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Rejecting the allegations of factionalism, he said that every political worker has well-wishers and the party’s decisions are not taken based on wishes. Decisions in the party are taken through a fixed process and everyone has confidence in it. He also said that in a democracy everyone has the right to express their views, both the Chief Minister and Deputy CM can express their views, the Constitution gives freedom of expression to everyone.
Nishad Party leader Sanjay Nishad also rejected the claims of factionalism and said that religious and law and order are different subjects. He said that religious leaders should be respected, but religious people should not get involved in politics and political people should not get involved in religious matters. Whoever has been insulted should get justice and everyone should follow the law. He said that no one has more religious knowledge than Yogi and there is no factionalism in BJP.
What did CM Yogi say on Shankaracharya?
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had said in the Assembly on the issue related to Shankaracharya in Magh Mela that the law in the state is equal for everyone and no person is above the law. He said that this House is governed by the law. I am the Chief Minister, but the law is the same for me as it is for a common citizen. Everyone has to follow the decorum. The Chief Minister hit back at the opposition and said that during the Samajwadi Party government, there was lathicharge on the concerned saint, and today the same people are talking about morality. A person holding a responsible position cannot behave indecently.
Akhilesh also reacted to CM’s statement
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had also targeted Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the ‘Shankaracharya’ controversy. He had said that uttering derogatory and derogatory words about Shankaracharya is verbal violence. Along with the person who said this, those who patted the tables in flattery will also be sinned. On Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s statement regarding Swami Avimukteshwaranand that ‘every person cannot be a Shankaracharya’, Akhilesh Yadav had written on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘Anyone can wear ‘chole’ as he likes, but his speech should be exposed. He said, uttering derogatory and insulting words about Shankaracharya is verbal violence and also a sin. Along with the person who said this, those who have patted the tables with flattery will also be guilty of sin.
