The Allahabad High Court will pronounce the verdict on 20 August 2025 at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, on the petition of late Mukhtar Ansari’s son and former MLA Abbas Ansari. Immediately after this, it will be clear whether the by -election will be held in Mau Sadar Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh or Abbas Ansari will remain an MLA.
The High Court reserved the decision on July 30 after the completion of the debate of both sides. Justice Sameer Jain’s single bench will pronounce the verdict. Abbas Ansari has filed a petition demanding the cancellation of 2 years sentence from MP MLA Special Court Mau.

During the assembly elections in the year 2022, MP MLA Court Mau imposed a 2 -year sentence and 3000 fine on May 31 in the case of inflammatory speech. On this basis, the legislature went on 1 June 2025. The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly decided to end Abbas’s membership within a few hours after being convicted by the court and finalized a two -year sentence. A notice was issued by the Principal Secretary of the Assembly, in which Mau seat was declared vacant.

After this, the court of District Judge Mau rejected Abbas Ansari’s appeal on 5 July. Then Abbas Ansari filed a petition in the High Court and challenged the order of District Judge Mau.
Let me tell you that in the assembly elections of 2022, Abbas Ansari, Suheldev contested on the ticket of Bharatiya Samaj Party. In that election, the Samajwadi Party had an alliance with Subhaspa. In the alliance, the SP gave Mau Sadar seat to Subhaspa.
What was the matter?
In a public meeting during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Abbas Ansari made a statement which was considered to be inflammatory and the authorities. He had said that after coming to power, ‘everyone will be calculated.’ After Bayan, the Election Commission had banned their campaign. Also, a lawsuit was registered in Kotwali Nagar police station area.
