Up farmer potato: In Uttar Pradesh, now the “King of Vegetables”, that is, the potato, is going to increase even more. On the initiative of the Yogi government, the International Potato Research Center in Agra and the Center of Excellence for Potato are being established at Saharanpur-Kusinagar. Its purpose is to inform farmers about better varieties, new technology and high yield, which will not only increase the yield, but will also double their income.

Potato is the most eaten and popular vegetable across the country. It is used from vegetables, snacks, chips, papad to alcohol. Due to its popularity and multi -utility, it is called the ‘king of vegetables’. The special thing is that one third of the country i.e. about 35% of potatoes are born in Uttar Pradesh alone. Potato yield per hectare in UP is 23 to 25 tonnes, which is more than the national average.

However, there are still many challenges in potato production, such as lack of good seeds, no access to farmers and lack of technical information. To overcome this problem, the government has started the process of opening the branch of International Potato Center in Agra. The center will be part of the Global Center headquartered in Lima, Peru, Peru.

Along with this, excellence centers are also being built in Saharanpur and Kushinagar so that farmers of western and eastern Uttar Pradesh can connect with this facility. Meerut, Agra, Moradabad, Kanpur, Bareilly and Aligarh divisions have the highest cultivation of potatoes, so these centers can prove to be a boon for the farmers of these areas.

Production of 38 to 44 tonnes of potatoes per hectare in countries like Europe

According to agricultural experts, with the help of these new centers, farmers will be able to get information about appropriate species for quick ripening, yielding in low temperature, and processing such as chips. For example, species like Kufri Famous, Kufri Shaurya, Kufri Chipsona which are prepared in a short time, but farmers do not get their seeds. In countries like Europe, 38 to 44 tonnes of potatoes are produced per hectare, while in Uttar Pradesh there is a lot of improvement in it. Therefore, from research and modern farming, farmers here can also get world -class produce.

Potato also increases body immunity

Potato is also special in terms of nutrition. It contains essential nutrients like carbohydrate, protein, vitamin-C, B6, potassium, magnesium and fiber. This is not only a good source of energy but also increases the immunity of the body. This initiative of the Yogi government hopes that the income of potato farmers will increase, the state will get a new identity and the reign of ‘King of Vegetables’ will be strengthened.
