Imran Khan Health: Politics has intensified across the country regarding the health of former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. Workers of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have taken to the streets in Islamabad, Karachi, Swabi and Attock. There is a demand that Imran Khan should be taken out of jail and immediately admitted to the hospital.
Night-long demonstrations in Islamabad and Karachi
The workers are sitting on dharna in different cities since 7 pm and raising slogans against the government. The Islamabad-Rawalpindi road was blocked by burning tyres. In Karachi also, a large number of supporters took to the streets and raised slogans against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir.
In Attock, protesters closed the bridge connecting Islamabad to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Party leaders and workers are sitting on an indefinite strike in front of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bhawan on Aga Khan Marg in Islamabad. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur also participated in the protest.
How did eye disease progress?
According to sources, blurring of vision started in Imran Khan’s right eye from October last year. It is being told that the problem increased due to lack of proper treatment for high blood pressure in jail. His blood pressure remained higher than normal for several months, but necessary changes were not made in his medicines. Even after complaining of poor eyesight in November, he was not taken to the hospital for better examination. Initially only eye drops were given. In January, when he almost lost vision in his right eye, advanced equipment was brought to the jail. The investigation revealed a serious disease called central retinal vein occlusion.
Question on delay in taking to hospital
Experts advised that he be admitted to the hospital and treated, but there was a delay in getting permission. Later he was taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad, where he was given a special injection in the eye and then sent back to jail.
Doctors had expressed fear of the risk of infection and advised to pay special attention to cleanliness. Despite this, he was kept in the jail cell. Later the institute issued a statement confirming the disease, but no clear information was given regarding the eyesight.
Government active after court order
Following the instructions of the Supreme Court, the government has started the process of forming a new team of specialist doctors. According to the information, Dr. Mohammad Amjad and Dr. Nadeem Qureshi of Al Shifa Eye Hospital, Rawalpindi have been included in the team. Party’s lawyer Salman Safdar told after the meeting that Imran Khan is seeing very little in his right eye and is constantly watering. The court has ordered the government to ensure treatment within the stipulated time limit.
