Himanshu Gupta, who once worked at a small tea shop in Bareilly, has today become an IAS officer by passing the UPSC Civil Services Examination. Himanshu’s story is an example of struggle, hard work and self-confidence. He prepared for UPSC exam without any coaching and secured 304th rank in 2019.
Himanshu was born in a normal family. His father owned a small tea shop, where Himanshu used to serve tea and help the family during his childhood. He worked in his father’s shop during his studies and increased his general knowledge by reading newspapers in his free time.
Himanshu completed his graduation from Hindu College, Delhi University. After getting admission in college, he had to take tuitions to cover his living and study expenses. Apart from this, Himanshu managed his financial situation by writing paid blogs. He says that this was the first time for him that he went to a metro city and got the experience of working in a big city along with his studies.
Decision taken after graduation
After completing his graduation, Himanshu got a good job opportunity. But his desire was to serve the country. He decided to prepare for UPSC Civil Services. For this, he took admission in a government college as a research scholar and obtained a master’s degree in Environmental Science. Himanshu was the topper of his batch. Despite getting the opportunity to do PhD from abroad, he chose the path of civil services. He believed that serving the country was the biggest priority for him.
IRTS in first attempt
Himanshu passed the UPSC exam in the first attempt, but due to low rank, he got selection in IRTS (Indian Railway Traffic Service). After this he did not give up and decided to appear in the UPSC exam again. After continuous efforts and hard work, Himanshu achieved success and set an example for his family and society by becoming an IAS officer.
