US President Donald Trump on Friday (6 February 2026) has issued a new executive order with the intention of strengthening the national emergency regarding Iran. Under this order, America can impose tariffs on countries that directly or indirectly purchase any type of goods or services from Iran, so that American national security, foreign policy and economic interests can be protected.
The purpose of the new order is to limit Iran’s economic network so that it cannot benefit from its nuclear capabilities, terrorism support, ballistic missile development and regional destabilization policies. Under this order, the US Secretary of State, Commerce Minister and Trade Representative have been given the authority to decide, make rules and implement the tariff system.
What are the official grounds of the order?
This order has been issued under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) and National Emergencies Act, which gives the President the power to impose strict rules on foreign trade due to national emergency. Iran has been described as a national security challenge for America, on which this step has been taken to continue its response.
American administrator’s policy regarding Iran
The Trump administration has adopted a tough stance with Iran. Earlier too, in 2018, Trump had pulled America out of the Iran nuclear deal and implemented the maximum pressure policy. Iran’s special group Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been declared a foreign terrorist organization. The current order continues this approach to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and regional influence.
Modifications and reactions to orders
According to the new executive order, if circumstances change, such as Iran or the affected countries aligning with the US in national security, foreign policy and economic matters, then the President can amend or change that order. Apart from this, if there is retaliation from any country then the same order can also be modified.

The White House has blamed Iran for regional instability, supporting terrorism and its own internal violence. Where protests are harshly suppressed and resources are diverted to weapons and nuclear programs rather than the welfare of civilians, the US considers it an extraordinary threat and is implementing a comprehensive accountability policy.
