America, the world’s richest country, is spending about 891 million dollars (about 8,223 crores in Indian rupees) every day from its treasury in the ongoing conflict with Iran. In the very first week of the war, the total expenditure has reached about 6 billion dollars and in this regard, experts believe that this figure can reach tens of billions of dollars in future.
According to the New York Times report, the Pentagon told the US Congress that the cost of the first week of the war was about $6 billion. It also said that Republican leaders expect that the administration may have to ask for more money from Congress for more funding.
More money may be needed for Trump administration expenses
According to the report of Washington-based think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), based on the information released by the Pentagon, the average daily expenditure is about 891.4 million dollars. It said that the Donald Trump administration may have to demand more budget from the US Congress, as the administration of then President George W. Bush did during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars in the 2000s. The report also said that such funding could become a major issue of opposition to the war.
Huge expenditure incurred in war during one week
America has spent so much money in the ongoing conflict with Iran in just one week, which is more than the entire GDP of many small countries of the world. In comparison with India, the expenditure of $891 million per day is more than India’s entire annual space budget.
Of the total expenditure of $6 billion in the first week of the conflict, about $4 billion was spent on weapons. This mainly includes interceptors used to stop Iranian missiles. According to the report, this expenditure is much more than Operation Midnight Hammer, a two-hour attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities last year.
What are the things being spent on daily?
According to the CSIS report, the major daily costs of the ongoing war with Iran are as follows:
- Air campaign: about 30 million dollars per day
- Naval operations: approximately $15 million per day
- Ground campaign: approximately $1.6 million per day
Meanwhile, the number of American military forces in the area has exceeded 50,000. This includes two aircraft carriers, about a dozen warships and several dozen bombers and fighter planes. CSIS estimates that if America starts using cheaper weapons and Iran’s drone and missile attacks reduce, then the daily cost of war may reduce somewhat in the future.
