In retaliation against America, Iran has targeted an important American radar system in Qatar. This radar is the AN/FPS-132 ballistic missile early warning radar of the US Space Force. On the basis of satellite images, it is being claimed that this system has suffered huge damage in the attack. The price of this radar is said to be around 1.1 billion dollars i.e. around Rs 9,000 crore. It is one of America’s most important radar systems in the Middle East.
The job of this radar is to quickly detect ballistic missiles coming from a distance and to provide information about their direction, speed and possible target. Its detection range is about 5,000 kilometers. It was installed in 2013 near Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. Al Udeid Air Base is America’s largest military base in the Middle East. This radar provides warning to America and its allies before missile attacks, so that defense systems like Patriot or THAAD can be activated on time.
What name did IRGC give to the operation?
According to Iranian media reports, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has described this attack as part of the ‘True Promise 4’ operation. This attack was carried out in response to the recent American and Israeli attacks on Iran. Iran used ballistic missiles and drones. Qatar’s Defense Ministry said most of the missiles and drones were intercepted, but some fell near the Al Udeid base.
Some reports say that a drone directly targeted the radar site. Iranian media claims that the radar was completely destroyed. However, America and Qatar have not yet officially shared complete information about the loss. Qatar did admit that the attack caused some damage and eight people were injured.
