US President Donald Trump has taken a big decision to increase America’s military budget by 50 percent for the year 2027. Trump has said that America should increase its defense budget from $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion. He called it necessary to build a dream military, which can stop any enemy and keep the country safe under all circumstances.
Donald Trump wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that the current global situation is extremely challenging and dangerous. He said that this decision has been taken after long discussions with senators, Congress members, ministers and senior officials. Trump wrote in the post, ‘For America’s security in these very difficult and dangerous times, the military budget for 2027 should not be 1 trillion but 1.5 trillion dollars.’
Defense expenditure will increase from the earnings from tariff
President Trump cited tariff earnings as a major reason behind increasing the military budget. He claimed that if there was no huge revenue from tariffs imposed on other countries, it would not have been possible to increase the defense budget to this extent. According to Trump, the money received from the tariff can be used to build a stronger and bigger army, reduce the national debt, and provide economic benefits to American citizens.
America’s defense budget is increasing rapidly
America’s military expenditure has increased continuously in the last few years. America’s defense budget in 2021 was $721 billion. The proposed budget for the year 2025 has been fixed at 901 billion dollars and for the year 2027, it has been fixed at 1.5 trillion dollars. This increase has been announced at a time when America has increased its military activities globally.
Tension increased regarding Russia and Venezuela
The announcement of increasing the military budget has come at a time when tension between America and Russia is increasing. Recently America has seized a Russian-flagged oil tanker in the North Atlantic. Russia has strongly condemned this action, calling it “piracy”. Additionally, on the orders of the Trump administration, the US conducted a high-profile operation in Venezuela, in which President Nicolas Maduro was arrested and taken to New York. Serious allegations related to drug trafficking have been made against Maduro.
