US President Donald Trump has decided to separate America from more than 60 international organizations and institutions by signing an important memorandum on Wednesday (January 7, 2026). India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA) is also included in this list. The White House says that these organizations are working against America’s interests and misusing American taxpayers’ money.

In a statement issued by the White House, it has been said that President Trump has ordered to expel America from 35 non-UN bodies and 31 UN affiliated organizations. This decision has been taken after a comprehensive review of all America’s international memberships and agreements.

ISA was declared an anti-American organization

The Trump administration has described the International Solar Alliance and other organizations as anti-American, ineffective and wasteful. The White House alleges that these organizations promote radical climate policies, global governance, and ideological agendas that conflict with US sovereignty and economic interests. Although the full list of affected organizations has not been made public, but according to administrative sources, the India-led ISA has been hit by this decision.

Distance from UN in Trump’s second term

Since starting his second term in January 2025, Donald Trump has continuously reduced America’s participation in the United Nations and its related institutions. Earlier, America has been out of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Funding of Palestinian relief agency UNRWA has been stopped. Has separated from UNESCO. The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced its withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement.

What is International Solar Alliance (ISA)?

The International Solar Alliance is a global initiative, which has more than 120 countries as members. Its objective is to reduce dependence on fossil fuels by promoting solar energy. The concept of this organization was put forward by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his speech at Wembley Stadium in London in November 2015. ISA was formally launched in 2016 in Marrakesh, Morocco. America became its 101st member in November 2021.
