The United States has praised this step and described India as a “great partner”. America says that this step of India in times of crisis will help in maintaining stability in the global oil market.

Indian Ambassador to America Sergio Gor said on social media platform X that India is a big buyer and consumer in the international oil market. In such a situation, cooperation between America and India is very important to maintain balance in the market.

Temporary exemption to buy oil from Russia

Amidst the current situation in the Middle East and the energy concerns arising from it, America has also given temporary permission to India to buy limited quantity of oil from Russia. Washington says that the purpose of this decision is to maintain the global energy supply during the crisis. Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, said tensions related to Iran have increased uncertainty over energy supplies in the Middle East. In such a situation, this step has been taken temporarily, so that stability is maintained in the global energy market.

Earlier, America had imposed a tariff of up to 25 percent on India for purchasing crude oil from Russia. Later US President Donald Trump decided to remove this additional tariff by announcing on his social media platform Truth Social. The US administration says that India had earlier reduced oil purchases from Russia and its attitude has been cooperative. In such a situation, India has been temporarily allowed to buy Russian oil to meet the shortage in energy supply due to the current crisis related to Iran.
