Russia’s big statement has come on India and China about the American tariff case. Russian External Affairs Minister Sergei Lavarov has said about tariff statements that both these ancient civilizations will not bow down to the American ultimatum.
Speaking at Russia’s main channel 1 TV’s ‘The Great Game’ program, Sergei Lavarov said that American demand to stop Russian energy purchase is only forcing countries to look for new energy markets, new resources and pay more. The Russian Foreign Minister’s remarks came after a strict criticism by the Donald Trump administration on buying oil from Moscow in India amidst Ukraine-Russia War.
‘Both China and India are ancient civilizations’
Lavarov said, “Both China and India are ancient civilizations and using this language with them that they stop doing what I do not like, or I will put a tariff on you, it will not work.” He warned Washington that only political opposition has arisen from him.

Pointing to the reaction of New Delhi and Beijing on American demands, Lavrov said that this not only causes the economic condition of those countries, but also causes serious difficulties for them, as they have to find new markets and pay more prices. Even more important is that this approach also has moral and political opposition.
50 percent tariff is applicable on India
For the past few months, India and America have been negotiating an interim trade agreement. Donald Trump announced a 25 percent tariff on Indian imports in July. A few days later, he imposed 25 percent more tariffs citing frequent imports of Russian oil to India, causing the total tariff to 50 percent. This 50 percent tariff is applicable from August 27.
