US President Donald Trump may have announced a 25 percent tariff on India for buying weapons from Russia, but the reality is that in the last two decades, India has bought $ 25 billion $ 25 billion or 20 lakh crore weapons from the US and other military equipment. On the contrary, in the last few years, India has reduced the dependence on Russia for weapons and ammunition.
Today, India’s armies (Army, Air Force and Navy) use the following weapons and military equipment purchased from the US. All these have been purchased from America in the last two decades.
1. P8I Maritime Surveillance Aircraft
2. C-17 Globemaster Military Transport Aircraft
3. C-130J Super-Harculis military cargo aircraft
4.MH-60R (Romeo) Anti-Sabarine Helicopter
5. Chinook Havilift Helicopter
6. Apache attack helicopter
7. Sig-Sure Rifle
8. M-777 Gun (Light Cannon)
9. F-404 Aviation Engine (for LCA-Tejas project)
10. F-414 engines on shared agreement
11. MQ-9 Predator Drone (agreement has been reached).
According to the latest report by the Global Think Tank Sipri (Stockholm International Peace Research Institute), between 2020-24, the percentage of Russia’s weapons in India was just 30 percent, while it was more than 50 percent during 2025-2019. France is second on the dependence of arms and America is at number three.
Who is the true friend of India?
India used to buy weapons from Russia at a time when America and other western countries supported Pakistan. Far from giving up arms, he was at the forefront of banning. Due to two fronts (China and Pakistan) struggling together, India had to depend on Russia for its defense needs.
In such a situation, this argument of Trump buys weapons from India, Russia, is not embracing. Due to buying oil from Russia, the prices of oil in the global market are almost stable today. Otherwise the whole world could have to face expensive oil.
The real reason for Trump’s threat is
In fact, Trump is upset that on Tuesday (29 July 2025), Prime Minister Narendra Modi clearly denied the intervention of any global leader in the statement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament about Operation Sindoor and Pakistan in Parliament. PM Modi did not directly take the name of Trump, but it was made clear in the gestures that the ceasefire was done to seek the pleas of Pakistan.
Since the ceasefire, Trump has kept a rote that due to America, the nuclear war in India and Pakistan was averted and ceasefire, but India has clearly said that there was no role of any third country in the ceasefire.
