This earth has given birth to countless freedom fighters and has seen many wars, treaty and political moves before the East India Company controls. Like the rest of the place, the British could not capture Uttar Pradesh in one stroke. Rather, he faced a century war and alliances to rule this state. Let’s know what the history of Uttar Pradesh was.

Battle of Buxar and Treaty of Allahabad

The entry of the British in Uttar Pradesh came in 1764 with the war of Buxar. Major Hector Munro was leading the British C and encountered the Nawab Shuja Ud Daula of Awadh, Nawab Mir Qasim of Bengal and the Sanon of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II. The defeat of these rulers not only broke their power but also cleared the way for the rise of the East India Company. The Treaty of Allahabad was signed in 1765. According to the treaty, the Nawab had to pay 50 lakh rupees for war compensation. Gradually, many districts of Uttar Pradesh were under British.

Assistant Treaty and Treaty of 1801

As the British ruled India in India, they implemented the Assistant Treaty System to strengthen their hold on Indian rulers. Under the system, the rulers had to keep the British Army for security and also had to pay the annual tax. In 1801, Governor General Lord Velsi forced Nawab Saadat Ali Khan II of Awadh to sign a treaty. Under this agreement, the Nawab handed over about half of his state and a large part of the present Uttar Pradesh to the British.

Awadh merger in 1856

The last blow came in 1856 when the British decided to meet Awadh completely in themselves. Governor General Lord Dalhousie, who was recognized for his aggressive merger policy, accused the last Nawab Wajid Ali Shah of misrule. After this, Wajid Ali Shah was removed from the post and Awadh was officially merged by the East India Company. After this, the British reorganized this place and became a new province by mixing the northwest province which was already under the British.
