Saturday in Khansyu area of Nainital district. (6 December, Late in the evening, during the action against drug smugglers, a major incident of firing on STF team has come to light. STF head constable and one person have been seriously injured in this attack. After the incident, both the accused smugglers have absconded, in search of whom STF and local police teams are conducting intensive operations in the area.
According to sources, STF had already recovered half of the goods from the smugglers below the village, while the remaining goods were present in the upper part of the village. To collect the remaining goods, Head Constable Bhupendra Singh Martolia had gone towards the upper village along with a person (Mukbir/local).

On reaching the top, the STF team asked the smugglers to come down, but both the smugglers got into a tussle and an altercation started. As the altercation escalated, one of the two smugglers suddenly started firing from the roof of the house. In the firing, one person was shot in the jaw, while Head Constable Bhupendra Singh Martolia was seriously injured after being shot in the stomach.
Both the accused smugglers fled from the spot
After the incident, the injured were immediately brought down and taken to Krishna Hospital in Haldwani, where Head Constable Martolia is undergoing treatment. The second injured has also been given medical assistance. After the firing, both the accused smugglers fled from the spot. STF and police teams conducted a search operation in the surrounding forests and villages at night, but till now no trace of them has been found.
This incident raises questions about how fast the drug trafficking network is becoming active in the hilly areas and how smugglers are no longer hesitating to even attack the police. At present STF is busy searching for both the absconding accused.
