Uttarakhand Electricity Rates: On Friday, another inflation has been hit for the people of Uttarakhand. The Department of Energy has directly increased the electricity rates, which will directly affect the pockets of the common consumers. This increase in electricity rates for domestic consumers is expected to increase the problems of especially middle class families and small traders.
According to the new rates, now the rate of electricity up to 100 units has been increased from ₹ 3.40 to ₹ 3.65 per unit. At the same time, consumers will now have to pay ₹ 5.25 per unit instead of ₹ 4.90 on 101 to 200 units of consumption. Earlier on 201 to 400 units of electricity, where ₹ 6.70 per unit was to be given, now this rate has increased to ₹ 7.15. Those consuming above 400 units will now have to pay at the rate of ₹ 7.80 per unit instead of ₹ 7.35.
There is resentment among the general public about this increase. Consumers say that the prices of LPG, petrol-diesel and everyday needs are constantly increasing. In such a situation, increasing the electricity rates is like a double hit on the common man.
Demand government to withdraw this decision
Small businessmen have also objected to this decision. He says that the cost of electricity will affect their profits and this will increase the cost of products, which will eventually affect the customers. Many trade boards described this growth as impractical and demanded the government to withdraw this decision.
The Department of Energy says that amendment in rates was necessary for rising production costs and strengthening of the system. According to the department, the new rates have been implemented after the approval of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Experts believe that in the coming time, the ever increasing inflation and electricity cost will deepen the impact on common life. At present, no relief package or subsidy has been announced by the government.
