Uttarakhand News: Uttarakhand weather has once again deteriorated. The torrential rains in the hilly areas since last night have disturbed life. Due to rain and landslides, Badrinath and Kedarnath highways have been closed at various places, causing the Chardham Yatra to come to a complete standstill. Thousands of pilgrims are stranded at various places, and the administration is engaged in relief work.
Sonprayag-Gaurikund motor connecting Kedarnath Dham is closed due to debris and boulder fall at many places. This route is completely closed due to continuous landslides near Munkatiya, due to which the journey of Kedarnath Dham could not be started today. Police and SDRF have stopped passengers at safe places and their movement is being ensured through alternative routes.
Badrinath highway blocked in Sirobgad
Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway is closed late at Sirobgad since late night. Due to heavy rains, debris and boulders came on the road from the hill, due to which the traffic has come to a complete standstill. According to the Chamoli police, the highway is blocked near Sirobgad, Bhanerpani, and Pipalkoti, and the road opening is going on. Thousands of passengers are trapped in Joshimath, Govindghat, and Pandukeshwar, who are facing a lot of trouble.
HighwayTeams gathered to open highway
Despite rain and landslides, teams of Border Roads Organization and National Highways Authority are engaged in removing debris. Chamoli and Rudraprayag police have appealed to passengers to be patient and avoid traveling in bad weather. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rain for the next few days, due to which passengers have been advised to be vigilant.
Impact on Chardham Yatra
Chardham Yatra which started from the first week of May. Rain and landslides have had a serious effect on this. 24-25 thousand passengers were arriving daily in Kedarnath Yatra, but due to rain, this number has come down to 16 thousand. Heli services have also been closed due to monsoon. Passengers visiting Badrinath, Hemkund Sahib, and other tourist places are also trapped in landslide zones like Sirobgad, Pinola, and Patalganga.
