A group of 28 tourists from Kerala have also gone missing after heavy landslides caused by cloudburst on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. This information has been given by the family members of Kerala -based tourists.

A relative of a couple in the tourist group said that out of these 28 people, 20 are from Kerala, who have settled in Maharashtra, while the remaining eight people live from different districts of Kerala. He told that the couple’s son had last talked to him a day before.

Passengers were on a visit to Gangotri from Uttarkashi

The relative said, ‘He told that he was going to Gangotri from Uttarkashi at around 8.30 am that day. There was a landslide on the same route. We are not able to contact him since he left. He said that the travel agency in Haridwar had organized a 10 -day Uttarakhand trip. The travel agency is also unable to give any information about the group.

He said, ‘The battery of his phone may have been over by then. There is currently no mobile network in that area.

5th body extracted from debris in Dharali

At least four 4 deaths have been confirmed in the disaster that occurred after a cloudburst on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) in Dharali, an ecological sensitive area of Uttarakhand, while the 5th body has also been taken out. Officials said that about half of the Dharali has been covered in mud, debris and flood waters due to landslides. This village is a major stop of the road leading to Gangotri, the origin of Ganga and there are many hotels and homestands here.

190 people were rescued and brought to a safe place: Chief Minister

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami informed about the devastation caused by a cloudburst in Dharali on Wednesday (August 6, 2025). The Chief Minister said, ‘The Indian Army has so far rescued 190 people to a safe place. Prime Minister Modi has also assured us of all possible help, all the works are being done under his guidance. Appropriate treatment is being provided to all the injured by bringing AIIMS Hospital. Right now the road is interrupted there, an attempt is being made to correct it. As soon as possible, the weather is not correct as soon as possible, but we are engaged in relief rescue work.
