Under the captaincy of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the Indian Under-19 team has won the Youth ODI series against South Africa. In the second match, Team India won by eight wickets under Duckworth-Lewis rule and took an unassailable lead of 2-0. Vaibhav, who was taking charge of the team for the first time in the absence of regular captain Ayush Mhatre, impressed everyone with his leadership.
Match affected by rain, but India’s dominance continues
The weather disrupted the match played at Willowmoor Park several times. After winning the toss and batting first, South Africa was all out for 245 runs. Jason Rowles played a brilliant inning of 114 runs, but other batsmen could not support him. Thanks to his innings, the host team somehow managed to cross 200 runs. For India, Kishan Kumar bowled brilliantly with the new ball and took four wickets, while RS Ambrish got two wickets. Apart from this, Deepesh Devendran, Kanishk Chauhan and Khilan Patel also took one wicket each.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s stormy innings turned the match
Vaibhav Suryavanshi gave an aggressive start to the Indian team chasing the target. He scored 68 runs in just 24 balls, which included 10 sixes and one four. Vaibhav broke the back of the South African bowlers by completing his half-century in 19 balls. His explosive innings laid the foundation of India’s victory.
Vedant and Abhigyan gave easy victory
After Vaibhav’s dismissal, Vedant Trivedi and Abhigyan Kundu took charge and led the team to victory without any pressure. After rain, under DLS rules, India got the target of 174 runs in 27 overs. Team India won the match by scoring 176 runs in 23.3 overs. Vedant Trivedi (31*) and Abhigyan Kundu (48*) led the team to victory while remaining unbeaten. India ended the match with a six from Abhigyan.
The last match of the series is a formality.
India has already won this series and now India would like to make a clean sweep by winning the third ODI to be played on January 7. Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s captaincy and stormy batting have made it clear that the Indian Under-19 team is fully prepared for the future.
