Vande Mataram Discussion: Vande Mataram will be discussed in Parliament, 10 hours time allotted; PM Modi will also participate


A special discussion will be organized in the winter session of Parliament later this week on the completion of 150 years of India’s national song Vande Mataram. A time of 10 hours has been set for discussion on this in the Lok Sabha, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate. In the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Lok Sabha, the government gave priority to Vande Mataram, while the Congress demanded a debate on SIR and electoral reforms. TMC has supported a special discussion in the Lok Sabha on Vande Mataram.

‘Congress tampered with Vande Mataram song’

On November 7, a program was organized in Delhi on the completion of 150 years of the song ‘Vande Mataram’, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the Congress party had tampered with the song. PM Modi said, ‘Unfortunately, in 1937, the Congress Party under the leadership of Nehru had removed important stanzas from the original ‘Vande Mataram’ song. ‘Vande Mataram’ was broken into pieces. It also sowed the seeds of division. Why was this injustice done?’

Congress’s response to PM Modi’s allegation

On the occasion of completion of 150 years of the composition of Vande Mataran, the Central Government had also issued a special commemorative coin and postage stamp. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh hit back at PM Modi’s statement and accused him of insulting the Congress Working Committee of 1937 and Rabindranath Tagore. He posted on X and wrote, ‘The Prime Minister’s insult to CWC and Tagore is shocking, but not surprising. This is because RSS did not play any role in the freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi.

Jairam Ramesh wrote on Many senior leaders including Kripalani, Bhulabhai Desai, Jamnalal Bajaj and Narendra Dev had participated.

He wrote, ‘The CWC statement on Vande Mataram was issued on 28 October 1937, which was deeply influenced by the advice of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The Prime Minister has insulted both this historical committee and Tagore.

When did Bankim Chandra Chatterjee write the song Vande Mataram?

India’s national song Vande Mataram was written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and was published in the literary magazine Bangadarshan on November 7, 1875. It was later included in his famous novel Anandamath. This novel is based on the background of the Sanyasi rebellion. This was a rebellion against the British East India Company in Bengal Presidency. At that time Bihar and Orissa were also part of Bengal.
