Sunday, October 19 is considered important from religious point of view. On this day, Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month is falling, which is celebrated as Narak Chaturdashi. This day falls a day before Diwali and is also called Roop Chaudas.
According to the Panchang, today Shaka Samvat 1947 and Vikram Samvat 2082 are going on. Chaturdashi Tithi will be at the time of sunrise and its effect will be till 1:52 pm. After this Amavasya will start. Today the Sun is situated in Libra and the Moon is situated in Virgo.
On this day, Bhadra Kaal will last till 1:52 pm and after that the auspicious time will start. Due to it falling on Sunday, the festival of Hanuman Jayanti (North India) is also being celebrated. Besides, it is also coinciding with the monthly Shivratri fast, due to which the day has become even more sacred.
According to Acharya Mukul Rastogi, on Narak Chaturdashi, one should wake up early in the morning and clean the entire house. Dust, cobwebs and unused items accumulated in every corner of the house are considered sources of negative energy, hence it is auspicious to throw them out.
Old, broken or unpaired utensils, torn clothes or shoes should not be kept in the house. Taking out these things removes stagnation and obstacles in life. In a clean environment, the blessings of Gods and Goddesses remain and happiness and prosperity come to the house.
The tradition of lighting a lamp at the main entrance of the house in the evening is considered very auspicious. Lighting a lamp near a vessel filled with water gives satisfaction to the ancestors and positive energy circulates in the house. This action is a symbol of both spiritual purification and prosperity.
