On Thursday (September 4, 2025) for colleges and universities across the country, the Union Ministry of Education released NIRF rankings 2025. The ranking of three major university in Delhi was the center of everyone’s attention in the ranking university category. Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia managed to make it to the top-5. But compared to the previous year, where JNU retained its old place number-2, DU jumped a position and moved from sixth to fifth place. Jamia moved to fourth instead of third.
It is worth noting that JNU has been intact on number-2 continuously for the last 9 years. At the same time, Delhi University has improved its ranking every time in the last 10 years and this time also reached one notch. This year was disappointing for Jamia Milia Islamia. Jamia was at third place for the last three years, but this time her rank fell one rung to fourth place.

The special thing is that when the university completed hundred years in 2020, Jamia was ranked 11th in the university category. In 2021, she climbed 5 places to sixth position. After this, it was at number three in 2022, 2023 and 2024. But during the era of new Vice Chancellor Mazhar Asif, Jamia has suffered a notch. It is also worth noting that with entering the second century year of its establishment, Jamia has faced a decline in the ranking for the first time.

It is a matter of relief for Jamia that even though there has been a loss of one place in the university category, it remains 13th in the overall category like last year. However, Jamia’s overall rank was 12th in 2023.
